Industry insiders have confirmed Foster will be present at Port Douglas in July and August for location shoots on what is reputed to be the biggest budget girl's action-adventure ever and one of the biggest budget shoots to hit Australian shores. Location scouts are assessing sites for the production, with sites believed to include Lizard Island, while studio shots will be filmed on the Gold Coast. Child star and Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin will play the lead Nim in the film alongside Jodie and also the gorgeous Gerard Butler. Nim’s Island is based on the book of the same title by Australian-based author Wendy Orr. Tranquil Newell Beach will be the scene of a bloody World War II invasion featured in the Hanks-Spielberg production The Pacific, due to start filming on 13 August. The invasion scene at Newell Beach, 4km north of Mossman, will depict gun-toting Allied marines hurtling from launches and storming the beach under heavy fire. But the secluded beach has not come cheap for HBO and First Division Productions, the companies behind the film, which have forked out $200,000 in a bond to Douglas Shire Council to ensure the 80ha site will be revegetated and landscaped to its original condition.
